The European Union and Sinfonía Foundation hold awards ceremony and final concert of the ProPiano Caribe regional competition
Santo Domingo. The European Union and Fundación Sinfonía held, together with the Ministry of Culture, the awards ceremony and concert of the first regional piano competition ProPiano Caribe 2024, on Thursday, March 14 in the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts.
The award ceremony was hosted by Katja Afheldt, ambassador of the European Union in the Dominican Republic; Milagros Germán, Minister of Culture and Margarita Miranda de Mitrov, president of the Fundación Sinfonía.
The first place was shared between Anabel Claro, participant from Cuba and Adriel Montañez from Puerto Rico. Enmanuel Gálvez, representative of the Dominican Republic, received an honorary recognition.
The ambassador of the European Union, Katja Afheldt, expressed her pleasure at culminating the ProPiano Caribe competition with a gala performance to the delight of the Dominican public.
“We feel very satisfied to successfully complete this project with which, through culture, we have managed to build bridges between European culture and the culture of the Caribbean through one of the most emblematic instruments, of Italian origin: the piano".
Margarita Miranda de Mitrov, president of the Fundación Sinfonía, also shared her satisfaction regarding the organization of the event: "It was great emotion to celebrate this inaugural edition of ProPiano Caribe that leaves a wonderful memory in all of us who participated in one way or another. "We sincerely thank the European Union for having trusted the Sinfonía Foundation to organize an event of truly international artistic level."
The gala program included the participation of Dmytro Choni, president of the ProPiano Caribe jury and award-winning pianist of Ukrainian origin, performing a work from his native country and the composer Claude Debussy. In addition, the audience was able to enjoy performances by the three finalists of the competition.
About ProPiano Caribe
ProPiano Caribe is an initiative funded by the European Union in the Dominican Republic, in collaboration with the Fundación Sinfonía, with the purpose of promoting the talent and creativity of young pianists in the Caribbean region. The origin of Propiano Caribe derives from Propiano República Dominicana, a project by German cultural promoter Michael Haentjes that this year presented its third edition.
The regional competition attracted participants from 25 eligible countries, from which three finalists were selected. They performed on March 13 in front of the president of the jury, the prominent Ukrainian pianist Dmytro Choni, and the renowned Bulgarian pianist Victoria Vassilenko.
ProPiano Caribe has the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, General Directorate of Fine Arts, Michael Haentjes and Tivalsa.
